Real Madrid president Florentino Perez feels that the 2011-12 Liga season was the best ever in Spanish football because of the records that were shattered throughout the campaign. Los Blancos scored 121 goals and amassed an impressive 100 points from 38 games to pip Barcelona to the Primera Division title, and Perez praised the club for bringing the league trophy back to the Santiago Bernabeu. "Real Madrid won the best league in the history of the competition," he was quoted as saying by EP. "It was the best Liga season in history because so many records were broken. It was the campaign where we racked up 100 points. "Our victory was the result of hard work and a lot of talented players. The coaching staff, fans, players and all the Madrid employees together made this incredible campaign possible." In addition to their 100-point haul, Real also broke the record for goals scored in 2011-12, while Barcelona's Lionel Messi set a new Pichichi milestone with 50 league goals.
