President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, stressed Tuesday Algeria is working since several years to lay the foundations for the achievement of equality between woman and man.
"We are working since many years to lay the foundations for the achievement of equality between women and men in our country," said President Bouteflika in a letter to the International Women's Congress "For a Culture of Peace" held in Oran and read by Mohamed Ali Boughazi, advisor to the President of the Republic.
"Any discrimination between man and woman or attempt to put them in opposition represents a mistake, God Almighty, raising the status of women, spared us any error in this regard," the Head of State affirmed.
The presence of women at school, at university, in factories, fields, and civilian and military institutions, the Parliament or in the judicial or diplomatic corps "is the materialization of our deep conviction that no difference exists between man and woman, except in the way each of them best accomplishes his missions at best," President Bouteflika added.
"Despite shortcomings we have to catch up in the future, we aspire to make our country an example to follow in the field of promoting women, part of the respect for human values and precepts of Islam", the Head of State said.
This four-day meeting is held by the Foundation for Mediterranean development "Djanet El Arif", based in Mostaganem and chaired by Sheikh Khaled Bentounes and a foreign partner, the NGO "International Association of Sufi Alawiya" (AISA).
