The United Arab Emirates provided a total of Dh 16 billion in humanitarian aid during the period between 2010 and 2012 to become one of the world's leading aid donors, Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) & Head of the U.A.E. Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid has said.
Sheikha Lubna made the remarks while speaking yesterday to over 100 visiting journalists from 45 countries on the behest of the National Media Council as part of the celebrations of the U.A.E.'s 43rd national day anniversary.
She said U.A.E.'s humanitarian and charitable aid covered more than 10 countries, including Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Yemen, Sudan, Egypt, Morocco and Kazakhstan and noted that most of the aid focused on the areas of healthcare, energy, education and reconstruction.
Sheikha Lubna also said the U.A.E. continued to provide assistance to the Syrians refugees and highlighted the recent expansion of the refugee camps in Jordan and setting up of a field hospital there to cater for Syrian refugees and the Jordanians in the two areas.
