Dubai Municipality collected over 13,000 tonnes of waste across the emirate during the three days of Eid Al Fitr.
The waste management department had started its preparations before Eid celebrations began through cleaning of all the Eid musallahs to receive the worshipers, and cleaning the streets and parks.
Khalid Mohsen, head of the operation and cleaning service section, told Khaleej Times some 10,000 waste containers of different sizes were distributed across the city's streets and congested areas.
He added that the team worked on a 24-hour shift throughout Eid. The morning of the first day of Eid from 5am to 12:30pm saw 18 supervisors and 345 cleaners deployed to maintain the city's cleanliness.
Mohsen said the department also received 30 complaints from people reporting neighbours mostly involved in throwing furniture and big house items outside their houses or apartments due to larger purchases during Eid.
Municipality cleaning workers were present in areas with the largest number of shopping centers in Bur Dubai and the department has also intensified the number of cleaning workers on beaches, resorts and commercial areas, especially in market areas.
The cleaning teams worked around the clock to keep the cleanliness of the city and operation rooms of the municipality will continue to work during the holidays to meet the public influx in parks, resorts and markets.
All the markets were open throughout the Eid, except for Naif Souq, Souq Al Shaabi and the Falcon Center that were closed during the first day of Eid.
