The works of 58th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Region Committee kicked off here today where the Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah chaired the session. In his speech during the opening session, Dr. Abdullah who chair the Saudi delegation to the session said that the region witnessed political, economic, and health repercussions as well as rapid changes. He added that the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region Committee has duties to preserve people's lives and seek to reduce the manifestations of murder, disease, poverty and the violation of human dignity and rights. For his part, the WHO the regional director of Eastern Mediterranean Region Committee Dr. Hussain Al-Jazairi expressed thanks to and appreciation of the efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in fighting the famine in Somalia. He also hoped that the Kingdom's kind gesture encourages other countries to support the WHO regional office for the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
