Egyptian presidential candidate Abdel Moniem Aboul Fotouh said the current presidential regime will create a new “pharaoh,” a chance for corrupt figures. He prefers adopting a mixed system that distributes authorities between the president and the parliament. He also praised the parliamentary regime, clarifying Egypt needs to activate its political society to be able to implement such a regime. Aboul Fotouh denied the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) or Salafis demands to establish an Islamic state in Egypt, adding the history of Sunni Islam does not recognize a religious state. As former figure of MB, Aboul Fotouh demanded Egyptians and political fronts to unify themselves and turn Egypt into a state of law while enjoying justice and political independence. He made this statement in a seminar in Our Country Assembly on Saturday October 29. He also praised Egyptians, considering them the real wealth in Egypt. He added the Egyptian citizen proves his efficiency if the suitable atmosphere was provided to him. He said the Islamists in the Arab region tend to raise slogans without any practical programs and praising the Turkish experience that managed to offer a serious program dealing with problems of the public. He demanded Egyptians to adopt serious solutions and programs after the Egyptian January 25 Revolution. He added each authority in Egypt has efficient citizens who can develop and reform authority, while they were ignored during the former regime. About the woman’s role in the Egyptian society, he said they were marginalized because of wrong habits and stereotypes and not religious values.
