Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning announced its application of the Quality Management System in the General Directorate of Urban Planning, Directorate of Planning and Municipal Councils Affairs. This statement was made by the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Dr. Juma Al-Kaabi received French Pyro-varteas delegation who presented to the Minister ISO 9001 quality management certificates.The French company carried quality auditing for the Ministry between 26 Sept. and 6 Oct. 2011 in two phases. Initially, auditing tackled quality management mechanisms in compliance with ISO 9001 under the supervision of Quality Management Section and the second phase tackled working activities and procedures in the departments currently included in the system. The auditing process culminated in the Ministry’s eligibility for ISO 9001 certification in the sectors which joined the system in the initial phase namely: the General Directorate for Urban Planning, Planning Directorate, Municipal Affairs Council in addition to the Comprehensive Municipal Center.Dr. Al-Kaabi emphasized that the quality assurance system has ben built whilst taking into consideration flexibility and expandability so as to include all activities in the Ministry which the work team succeeded to implement within a record time of 6 months without seeking any assistance from consultation contractors in addition to organizational action procedures for the quality management system. After both auditing phases were finalized by the external auditors, a recommendation was submitted in favor of awarding the Ministry ISO 9001 certification.The Minister pointed out that the Ministry intends to proceed with the quality assurance system in compliance with a precise timetable to cover all the basic services rendered by the Ministry.
