The Shura Council today endorsed establishing a permanent "Human Rights Committee" at the council and referred the proposal to its Legislative and Legal Committee. The proposal, submitted by members Dr. Salah Ali, Khalil Al Dhawadi, Abdulrahman jamshir, Ahmad Bahzad, Munira bin Hindi, Hamad Al Nuaimi, Dr. Aisha Salim Mubarak and Hala Ramzi Fayez, aims to consolidate the kingdom's human rights and democratic position and demonstrate its resolve to adhere to international standards in this regard, amid the growing interest of the International Community to promote human rights worldwide.The committee will be in charge of reviewing legislations and national laws related to human rights in order to determine whether they comply with international human rights standards and conventions, propose draft laws aiming to consolidate human rights in the kingdom and enhance cooperation with local and foreign human rights organisations. It will also cooperate with the kingdom's Human Rights and Social Development Ministry and submit periodical reports to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in which the kingdom is a member.
