27-year-old wins case in Ras Al Khaimah, but appeal has been filed.A Ras Al Khaimah court has ruled in favour of a 27-year-old Emirati bodybuilder, allowing him to carry his father's name, an official said.B.I.A. filed the case against his father because he needed an official document to prove his identity so he could take part a bodybuilding competition outside the UAE.He lost the chance to compete in the event as the issue was not resolved in time. The dispute arose because the defendant denied that he was bodybuilder B.I.A.'s father."My father refused to let me use his name because he believes that I am not his legitmate son because, according to my father, the pregnancy period of my mother was different to the date of their marriage," B.I.A told Gulf News.B.I.A. has been begging his father to allow him to bear his name since he was 18 years old, the court official said.He filed a similar case as an 18-year-old which was rejected, the official added."When the son turned 18, the father made his son sign a pledge that he would never ask him for anything or file a case against him," the official said. The judge asked two court employees to sign the document and to act as witnesses in order for B.I.A. to obtain his national identity, the official added.B.I.A., who works in a gym, said his father had made his life miserable. "He has deprived me of everything," he said. His lack of identity meant he could not get into school or qualify for a health card. As a result he is illiterate. He filed a similar case against his father in 2004, but his uncle interfered and convinced the pair to settle the matter between them to avoid scandal. Before that settlement could happen, the uncle died."I was deprived of my rights because my father believes that I am an illegitimate child," he said.B.I.A.'s mother, an Emirati, and father divorced 26 years ago.The father has already filed an appeal against the ruling with another hearing due soon.
