Aswan Governor General Magdy Hegazy said the huge fire that broke out at Edfu marketplace has been successfully contained, with no casualties reported.
In statements on Wednesday, the governor said the Armed Forces exerted strenuous efforts to control the fire with the help of helicopters, noting that civil protection forces have started a cooling operation at the fire scene to ban its outbreak again.
A decision has been taken to form a technical committee to assess damage inflicted on shops and nearby houses, added the governor.
The fire caused slight injuries to a number of civil protection members who were discharged from hospital shortly after receiving first aid medication.
