"There is a noticeable will to hold fair and credible elections in Tunisia" affirmed Wednesday Mr. Michael Gahler, Head of the EU Election Observation Mission in Tunisia. At his meeting Wednesday with Interim Prime Minister Béji Caid Essebsi, Mr. Gahler said that ''no serious incident has been reported during the election campaign." The EU Election Observation Mission will spread out in several hundreds of polling stations according to a representative sample of the electorate, he also said, adding that the presence of this mission testifies to the ''special care'' taken by the EU to the process of democratisation in the country. The talks with the Prime Minister allowed to highlight the contribution of the Independent Election Body ISIE to the election process and means to support its efforts so that it might take fair action, Mr. Gahler affirmed. The Election Observation Mission is expected to submit a ''precise and fair'' assessment of the election process in accordance with the Tunisian laws and with the international standards and treaties signed by Tunisia, he concluded.
