The court of first instance of Marrakech sentenced, on Wednesday, two French nationals to eight months in prison for stealing one million dirhams ($125,000), judicial sources said. The two defendants, who were also fined 1,000 dirhams each, stood trial on charges of stealing the sum from a hotel, breach of trust and aggravated theft. The searches carried out by the police at the house of the main accused, who was in charge of control at the hotel, enabled to seize the stolen sum. In order to mislead the police, the accused had lodged a complaint that he had been victim of aggression by a masked man who he claimed had stolen the sum and run away.
