Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, has stressed the importance of culture in bringing people closer, strengthening ties between countries, spreading peace, promoting the culture of communication and tolerance.

Sheikh Nahyan said that the influence of culture on the progress of populations is evident, as it is the main driver in guiding society's ideas in the right direction and for bringing growth and prosperity. He added that culture also contributes to building civilised societies where moral values are commonplace.

Sheikh Nahyan made the comments, while receiving Sonia M'barek, Tunisian Minister of Culture and Heritage Preservation, and her accompanying delegation who are currently visiting the country, at his palace.

The meeting was attended by Afra'a Al Sabri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, and Hatem Al Saim, Ambassador of Tunisia to the UAE.

The Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development said that the UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, always emphasises the depth of its brotherly relations with Tunisia, and its keenness to deepen ties of joint work between the two countries. Sheikh Nahyan also stressed the shared history that the two countries enjoy based on mutual respect, common interests, and in serving the greater Arab good.

Sheikh Nahyan went on to praise the prominent role that Tunisian culture played in recent times to defeat terrorism and provide moderate values for co-existence.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed ways of strengthening cultural co-operation and ways of developing relations in various cultural and knowledge fields. They reviewed the cultural movement, and how culture plays a big part in communication between peoples, and ways of benefitting from the cultural experiences of other nations.

The Tunisian minister said that the role of culture is rooted in upholding values of moderation, morality and hard work for the betterment of peoples, defending the homeland, and for bringing success, growth and prosperity to communities.

She also praised the UAE for its role in upgrading the cultural sector and its keenness in providing a platform for Emirati and Arab artistic expressions so that they can play a tangible part in the world of creativity.
