Paramedical agents in Algeria embarked on a three day strike on Monday to protest: "The partial application of the basic law issued by the Minister in charge." The strike came in response to a call issued by the National Union. The Secretary General of the National Union of the paramedical corps Lounes Gachet declared that the basic law of the group which was approved in 2011 "was only applied 20 percent of the time”, noting that the union had waited for the application of this basic law before announcing the strike and calling on the ministry "to fulfill its obligations toward the paramedical corps.” Gachet called on the custodian authorities to fulfill the demands of the group, stressing their "significant role in serving the public's health.”
