Cairo - Mahmoud Al Rifai

Egyptian singer, record producer and actress Angham has told Arabstoday that she is delighted with the success of her first television drama, Fi Ghamdet Ain (In The Blink Of An Eye), after it was broadcast on some of the biggest Arab satellite channels. Angham, named the best selling female pop artist in Middle East in 2003, says she was taken aback by the positive feedback from the Egyptian public. "I had never expected the series to do so well, considering it was my first experience of working in television, have done some theatre projects in the past. "I was quite nervous during the filming because I kept thinking about the millions of viewers all over the Arab world who would be able to watch me on their screens," she added. The Alexandria-born musician is confident about her acting abilities and claims she would relish the opportunity to work on another drama project. "I received hundreds of congratulatory messages from my colleagues and friends, but what gave me even more joy was reading the work of critics, who also showed their admiration for my acting. I am thinking about working in television once again, because I enjoyed the work and it didn't really have an impact on my singing," she explained. Angham also quashed rumours of a dispute with fellow Egyptian actress Dalia al-Buhairi, disclosing that Buhairi had a problem with the opening credits. "There is no personal disagreement between me and Dalia. There was a problem about the order in which the names would be listed during the opening credits of the drama. However, everything that has been written about us is wide of the mark, and Dalia will probably file a case against the production company, not me," the actress clarified. The Egyptian singer said that Buhairi's insistence that her name should be placed before Angham's due to being more experienced did not make sense. "There is no rule in Arab or world cinema which stipulates that the names should be listed based on experience. The names are usually written based on the importance of the role being played by the person in the drama. "If it was about experience, then the wonderful Hamdi Ahmed should be the first name on the list, not me or Dalia," Angham explained, adding that she had a contractual agreement for her name to appear first on the credits list. Angham revealed that she has recorded several songs in the studio recently, but is unsure about which tracks would be included in her new album. "I held a lengthy session with songwriter Amir Taima, because I like his lyrics in my albums. We agreed on a brief outline, but are yet to set a deadline for the release date," the Egyptian performer added.
