The European Union (EU) allocated 60 million euros to combat child labor in Egypt and improve access to education for children who are at risk of entering the labor market , said Head of the EU Delegation to Egypt James Moran.

He also said that the EU and the World Food Program (WFP) work on combating child labor, with a particular emphasis on girls’ access to education.

The will benefit up to 100,000 children each year, mostly girls, who are at risk of engaging in child labor, he added.

A delegation of the EU and the World Food Program paid a visit to four schools in Beni Suef, out of 651 schools, which are supported by the EU, according to a joint statement issued by the EU Embassy in Cairo and the WFP.

World Food Program Director Lobna Alaman said that the delegation met with a number of children, who want to change their lives for better.

By providing food assistance and livelihoods incentives, we aim to encourage enrollment and, more importantly, retention in school of the most vulnerable children, especially girls,” she added.
