Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani said on Thursday that the main challenge facing GCC countries is to prepare for an oil and gas "post era".
In a speech during the opening of British-Gulf Economic Forum, Al-Zayani said that GCC wealth is derived from the abundance of natural resources, however, "these resources as you know are declining and this requires an overall change in the pattern of thinking from all GCC countries." GCC chief stressed importance of starting to shift from "passive to active dependence" on innovation and prepare young people for commitments they will face in the future; commitments that require a range of skills, calling on youths to strive for the spirit of leadership so they can compete globally.
Al-Zayani also pointed out to the importance of benefiting from the British experience in the areas of business, research, and high-tech industry.
The GCC chief noted that the future of GCC countries is subject to a critical change, which opens up prospects for talents and people with imagination and critical thinking in the private sector.
