Doha - Arab Today

The Minister of Transport, HE Jassim bin Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Chairman of Hamad Port Steering Committee, said the immersion of the Port's basin in water is considered as one of the most important phase of the project, which will serve as the main gateway for Qatar's trade with the world.
In a speech delivered on Thursday on the occasion of the new port name's launch as Hamad Port, HE Al Sulaiti said the overall vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the vigorous follow-up of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani were the key factors for the delivery of this phase of this huge project ahead of the deadline and within the allocated budget.
A partial opening of Hamad Port is scheduled before the end of 2015, including loading and unloading stations, import of vehicles and construction equipment, HE Al Sulaiti said, adding that the first phase of the port, which will help increase the capacity of the current Port of Doha, will be fully operational in late 2016.
The Minister of Transport noted that this occasion is the expression of gratitude to HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and its opening would serve as a new window for Qatar to the outside world.
The State of Qatar is implementing an ambitious program outlined by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani including many major projects in the transport infrastructure such as the development of land, sea, air, road and rail networks.
He explained that Qatar allocated more than $ 140 billion for the development of infrastructure and transportation projects over the next five years within its program to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 and achieve prosperity and sustainable development for the good of the nation and citizens under the wise leadership.
