The National Assembly and State Audit Bureau (SAB) are joining hands to protect public funds as well as using them within proper legal frameworks, SAB deputy President Adel Al-Sarawi said Monday.
He made the statement after a visit by members of the parliament's Budgets and Final Statement Committee to SAB to have first-hand account of mechanisms used to enforce SAB reports about financial performance of government authorities.
The visit, said Al-Sarawi, reflected the MPs' keenness on supporting more efficient and effective monitoring role by SAB.
The major objective behind the establishment of SAB, recalled Al-Sarawi, was to protect public funds and make sure they were used in the proper legal channels.
SAB statement said the MPs' visit aimed at showing solidarity with the SAB monitors and that their endeavors to protec public funds were supported.
The parliament members, noted the statement, wanted to make sure financial irregularities would not be repeated by activating legal action.
