Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Chairman, Issa Murad, on Sunday called on the Jordanian and Thai private sectors to exert more efforts in order to promote the volume of trade between the two countries.
Murad, speaking during the inauguration of the Jordanian-Thai Business Forum, assured that the trade balance between the two countries was still below expectations and remains in favor of Thailand, with Jordanian exports standing at $28 million last year compared to imports worth $225 million for the same period.
Murad clarified that Jordan has an inestor-friendly environment and legislation governing it, in addition to security and stability, which make the Kingdom a destination for Arab and foreign businessmen. He noted the growing interest evinced by Arab and foreign investors in the Kingdom due to the economic feasibility granted by Jordan.
The ACC Chairman called upon the Thai side to take advantage of Jordan's geographical location and to invest in major ventures, mainly in the areas of renewable energy, transport, railways, infrastructure, water, food, tourism, information technology and health.
He called for the signing of a free trade agreement between the two countries to increase trade exchange and promote economic relations, stressing that work is underway to launch a permanent exhibition of Thai products in Jordan.
The chemical industry products and leather are the most important Jordanian exports to the Kingdom of Thailand, while Jordan imports foods, transport equipment, metals and wood.
