Israeli artillery forces launched at least two strikes at Hamas-affiliated sites in the town of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip around dawn on Sunday.
Witnesses said two large explosions were heard in the area during the early hours of Sunday morning, after two Israeli artillery shells landed near an al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Hamas movement, site in the town, Palestinian news agency (Maan) reported.
No injuries or civilian property damage were reported.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that Israeli artillery forces fired at a Hamas site near the border in the northern Gaza Strip, in response to fire coming from the location that was being directed at Israeli troops across the border.
According the spokesperson’s accounts the shelling took place on Saturday night.
The shelling came two weeks after the Israeli army fired missiles into the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun that left at least five Palestinians injured, after a rocket fired from Gaza fell inside the southern Israeli city of Sderot, with no injuries or damage reported by the Israeli army.
