A Ugandan official says more than 12,300 Congolese fleeing violence at home have crossed into Uganda. Stephen Mallinga, Uganda's minister for disaster preparedness and relief, said in a statement Wednesday that the number keeps rising, with Ugandan authorities now forming a contingency plan for up to 30,000 refugees from Congo. Mallinga said the Congolese are being resettled in four remote refugee camps, according to a report of the Associated Press. The Congolese are fleeing renewed violence in the country's east, where a renegade general's militia is terrorizing villagers.
