Turkish forces in Cenkeser border post have returned fire coming from within Syria, Turkish General Staff said in a statement on Wednesday. Clashes that started between members of the PKK terrorist organization and Syrianopposition fighters in the border town of Ceylanpinar in Sanliurfa on Tuesday at 14:00 local time are still alive, the statement said. Several houses in the town center and the town police department became the target of about a dozen gunshots fired by small arms during the fighting that continued overnight, it said. As per rules of engagement, Turkish forces returned fire, the statement said. Nezir Atilla, chief of Cumhuriyet district in Ceylanpinar, was hospitalized after sustaining a slight injury due to the gunshots but was completely stable, the statement added.
