Treasurer of Egypt’s Ahly club Kamel Zaher stressed the importance of the team’s participation in Arab Championship scheduled to be held in Egypt in July 22, saying that the tournament will bring many gains to Egypt in general and especially to Ahly football team.
He added, in a statement to “Arabs Today”, “Ahly has a strong desire to participate in the tournament, despite the busy schedule in the coming period, due to the great role performed by the team in the Egyptian and Arab sports, as the leader of the Arab clubs and the most famous in the Arab world.”
He praised the decision to hold the tournament in Egypt during the current timing, saying that the decision comes to provide clear evidence that the country is able to host largest events in various fields. He revealed that the club’s board aspires to participate in the tournament to make it a success, and to show the leading role of Egypt in the Arab world, especially as everyone knows the great national role played by Al Ahly in Egyptian society since its establishment in 1907.
Zaher pointed out that the Board of Directors, headed by Mahmoud Taher, is well aware of the importance of the event for Egypt and its leading role in the Arab region, whether in the field of sports or politics. He added that the major duty of the club is support Egypt and to stand behind any project that would serve Egypt and enhance its position in the Arab world in addition to its role on the sporting or social levels. He added, “It is impossible for the team to take an apology decision.”
He added that Ahly’s board decided to allocate a private jet to the football team during its journey to Cameroon to avoid the stress during the second round of the group stage, in the African Champions League light of their keenness to support the team in his African participation to meet the aspirations of the masses to win the African Championships and return to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.
