Cairo - Hisham Shaheen

Meteab scored al-Ahly's winning goals Cairo - Hisham Shaheen Al-Ahly seem to be heading for the CAF Champions league last-16 after beating Kenyan champions Tusker at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi in the first leg of the round of 32 fixture. Emad Meteab scored al-Ahly's goals at minutes 48 and 55, before Jesse Were scored for the Nairobi-based team at minute 58. The win means that al-Ahly can afford a tie or a 1-1 draw at home in the return leg to move into the last 16. Al-Ahly put on a modest performance in the first half, absorbing the Kenyan champions' energy. The Egyptian side's manager, Hosam Badrawi, tried to control the midfield early through Abdallah Said and Hosam Ashour. Tusker's strongest first-half chance at goal came at the midway point when a scramble in the penalty area ended with a shot by Were that al-Ahly goalie Sherif Ekrami turned into a corner kick. Al-Ahly, which played meekly in the first half and failed to challenge its rivals, had its only opportunity in the form of a cross by Sherif Abdel-Fadil which was met by no follow-through. After a weak first half in which Tusker picked up confidence along the way but neither team posed much of a threat to the other's goal, al-Ahly was given the signal to attack, scoring twice in 10 minutes in the second half. With al-Ahly on the offensive at the start of the second half as Mohammed Barakat penetrated Tusker's defence, Abdallah Said's shot was finished off by Meteab, who managed to bamboozle the Kenyan keeper to score the al-Ahly's first goal three minutes into the second half.  The second came only seven minutes later. Complacency gifted the Kenyan side its only goal from a Were header which flew past Ekrami. The morale boost pushed Tusker's revival, with the Kenyans coming within a whisker of a draw on several occasions, but Ekrami and defenders Mohammed Naguib and Saad Samir frustrated Were and Co's efforts, ending the game with 1-2 on the scoreboard.
