A total of 35 people have been killed in Guatemala and almost half a million others have been affected by the flooding and mudslides caused by a week of non-stop torrential rains from two hurricanes and three other tropical storms. The Guatemalan authorities said in a statement released late Monday evening that the total number of the people affected had risen to 478,030. "So far more than 23,000 people have been evacuated, while six are still missing and 19 are wounded," said the National Disaster Reduction Coordination Office. A nation-wide state of emergency has been declared in Guatemala. Latest figures showed that the death toll in Central America from the rains have now reached 98 while a total of 851,283 people have been affected by the rains.
