One person died and eight others sustained injuries in traffic accidents that occurred in the emirate in three days last week, according to the Dubai Police.
Brig-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director-general of the Dubai traffic department, said the person died of severe injuries due to an accident between two vehicles in Al Aweer area 2. The driver had tried to overtake and hit a car moving in the opposite direction. He said the second traffic accident involved six vehicles on Cairo Street towards Al Mamzar. The collision left five people injured.
Brig-Gen Al Mazrouei added that another accident took place on Dubai-Al Ain road between four vehicles because of not leaving enough space between the vehicles.
Meanwhile, trucks were involved in 62 accidents on Dubai roads in the last 10 months, in which 12 people were killed and 82 injured, a senior police official has said. The police recorded 29,266 violations against truck drivers during this period.
The main violations committed by truck drivers are failure to adhere to lane discipline, parking on road shoulders and making sudden turns. Brig-Gen Al Mazrouei said a tent has been set up at the truck stop in Al Aweer to host awareness campaigns. Truck drivers can also benefit from free medical check-ups and complimentary inspection of tyres.
