Chad is closing Qatar’s embassy and telling its staff to leave the country within 10 days, accusing the Gulf state of trying to destabilize the central African nation via its northern neighbor Libya.
"In order to safeguard peace and security in the region, Chad calls on Qatar to cease all actions that could undermine its security as well as those of the countries of the Lake Chad basin and the Sahel," the foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The move comes as Doha faces increased accusations of supporting terrorist organizations and undermining stability in several countries, the statement added.
Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E and Bahrain severed diplomatic and commercial ties with Qatar in June, accusing it of sponsoring terrorism and destabilizing the region by backing terrorism.
