The incumbent Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen officially tendered his government's resignation to Queen Margrethe II and Crown Prince Frederik on Friday. "I have submitted my resignation and advised the Queen that she can now consult parties for a new government formation." Rasmussen tells to Danish National TV DR. Incumbent Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen's center-right coalition fail to defeat in the election to the center-left Red Bloc headed by Social Democratic Party Chairman Helle Thorning-Schmidt, ending its ten years in office since 2001. Helle Thorning-Schmidt is set to be the country's next prime minister, and the first woman to hold that post. On 5 April 2009, Lars Loekke Rasmussen succeeded Anders Fogh Rasmussen as Prime Minister following Anders Fogh Rasmussen's appointment as Secretary General of NATO. Since then, he has been Prime Minister of Denmark and the leader of the centre-right Liberal party, who has been a member of the Danish parliament since September 1994. He has held various key minister posts of Minster of Internal affairs, Minister of Health and Minister of Finance under Anders Fogh Rasmussen's Cabinet. Rasmussen's Liberals party has captured 26.7 percent of the vote and won 47 seats in the 179-member Danish parliament, remaining the single-largest party. He will be the new leader of opposition to the new Danish center-left government. Rasmussen acknowledged defeat of the country's Liberal-Conservative government in the general election at midnight Thursday when 98.5 percent of the votes were counted.
