Egypt's ministry of justice and the UNICEF signed Wednesday a memorandum of understanding to develop and implement a plan of action to support and safeguard the rights of child victims and witnesses.
The protocol of cooperation aims to promote the concept of restorative justice and to offer alternatives to detention and penalties in accordance with the Egyptian constitution and law.
Assistant Minister of Justice for Human Rights, Women and Children Suzan Fahmy said that this memorandum is the result of continuous cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the UNICEF Foundation over the years.
Assistant to the Minister of Justice for Parliamentary and Media Affairs Judge Khaled al Nashar said that the protocol comes within the ministry's framework to establish joint cooperation with international institutions in order to uphold laws relating to the criminal justice system for children and to activate the concept of restorative justice.
