Salem Al Mazroui travelled to the US 20 days ago to oversee his father's cancer treatment when he was shot dead by a gang of robbers at his home in Houston, Texas. According to Khou.com. Houston Police said Al Mazroui and his father were returning home at around 10.15pm when the two suspects pounced on them. The suspects forced them to go inside the house where they started making demands. The father, Saif Bin Musallam Al Mazroui, ran to the front door and managed to get outside. His son, 25-year-old Salem, was running behind him when one of the suspects opened fire. Salem sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspects commandeered the victim's black car and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. Police believe the victims were directly targeted. They said the suspects were hiding and waiting for the victims to arrive home. Ahmad Al Wa'ali, a relative of the victim, who lives in Athan in Ras Al Khaimah, also the hometown of the victim, told Gulf News that the incident occurred when the victim and his father had come from Taraweeh prayers and were heading back home. "They fired at Salem and Saif, but the bullets hit Salem and missed the father. They then snatched the car keys and wallets of Salem and his father and fled the scene," he said. Stable condition Al Wa'ali said the father's condition is stable now. He said at the time of the incident, Salem's sister was at home, but she escaped unharmed. "We did not get any information whether the suspects have been arrested or not. Salem's brothers flew today (Monday) to the US to see their father and bring the body of their brother [home], which is expected to arrive in three days," Al Wa'ali said. Al Wa'ali said the victim's cousin, Rashid Al Mazroui, who is in another US state, has flown to Houston to follow up the investigations. "Salem had gone to Houston 20 days ago with his sister to replace his mother and stay with his father instead of her, as his father is being treated for cancer there for the past five years," he said.
