A massive fire erupted in a lubricants and oil plant of a factory located in Sharjah Industrial Area No. 10 on Wednesday. No causalities have been reported.
Firefighters from various Sharjah fire stations controlled the blaze in four hours and prevented the flames from spreading to nearby warehouses.
Col Sami Al Naqabi, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defense, said that the firefighters took a long time to douse the fire, due to the inflammable nature of the stored materials which also produced thick smoke that enveloped the area.
He said the firefighters are now working on the cooling operation to ensure the site is safe for forensic experts, who will soon carry out investigation to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
This is the third fire accident to happen in Sharjah in as many days due to failure in adhering to fire safety and protection regulations.
Civil defense has stepped up its inspection targeting companies, warehouses and factories violating rules and endangering lives.
