New York - UPI

Miami police said they are investigating after someone stole 500 canaries from a man's home and sold them to local pet stores. Manuel Sanchez, 87, who has kept canaries for 20 years, said someone broke into his shed May 26 and he later learned the birds had been sold to three local pet stores the following day, WFOR-TV, Miami, reported Wednesday. Sanchez said he was only able to recover 150 of the birds, which sell for $20 to $30 each. Police said one of the pet store owners said he quickly sold all of the canaries. Miami-Dade police are asking anyone with information on the case to come forward.
