At least 50 people have been killed after a powerful typhoon struck central and western Japan over the weekend, causing severe flooding and landslides. Fifty-four are missing after the country's worst storm in seven years, Japan's NHK TV reported. The nation is still struggling to recover from a devastating earthquake and tsunami just six months ago. Rescue teams are continuing the search for survivors after Typhoon Talas ripped through the region on Sunday, destroying homes and leaving thousands stranded. Aid helicopters have been delivering supplies to remote communities cut off by landslides. More than 15,700 people died in the March 11 disaster.
