Turkish police on Tuesday seized nearly 219 kilograms of hashish in the central province of Sivas, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported. The illegal substance was found in hidden compartments of a truck en route to western Turkey, said the report, adding that the driver of the truck was taken under custody. Acting on a tip-off, Turkish police stopped a car on the Gaziantep-Sanliurfa highway and seized 45.2 kilograms of hashish in the southeastern province of Gaziantep on the same day, said the report. Two people were detained in the operation. Turkey is a key transit route for drug smuggling from Asia and the Middle East to the European markets.
