The Turkish police on Tuesday seized 375.7 kg of hashish in an operation conducted in the southeastern provinces of Gaziantep, Hatay and Sirnak, the semi- official Anatolia news agency reported. Acting on a tip-off, the police stopped a minibus on the Gaziantep-Sanliurfa highway and found the hashish stashed in the vehicle, according to the report. Six people in Gaziantep, Sirnak and Hatay provinces were detained in connection with the illicit drug trafficking, said the report. On Monday, Turkish security forces confiscated 50 kg of hashish in separate operations conducted in the Turkish capital of Ankara and southeastern provinces of Mardin and Sanliurfa, said Anatolia, adding that eight people were detained in connection with the illicit drugs. Turkey is a key transit route for drug smuggling from Asia and the Middle East to the European markets.
