President Dmitry Medvedev is in favor of limiting the majority of the winning party in parliamentary elections to 226 seats, Right Cause party leader Mikhail Prohkorov said on Monday after a meeting with Russia’s leader. Tycoon Prokhorov, who was named head of Right cause in June, told journalists Medvedev had ordered Kremlin administration staff to study his proposal. Prokhorov said he had presented the president with several suggestions, “one of which was that political monopolies should be limited by one or two terms.” “We also put forward the idea of limiting the winning party to no more than 226 seats in the State Duma. Or not more than half of the main committees,” Prokhorov said. Medvedev set December 4 as the date for parlimentary elections earlier on Monday.
