A landslide caused by heavy rains buried a bus in Colombia's northeastern province of Santander, killing six passengers on board, local officials said Thursday. The victims were found trapped inside the buried vehicle when police arrived at the scene Wednesday night, police commander Mario Pedroza said, adding that two women made emergency calls to their families before they died. A police officer, the bus driver and his young son were among the identified victims. "Six bodies were sent to the forensic medical department in Bucaramanga. The highway was cleared and the situation was normalized," Pedroza said. Heavy rains have caused frequent landslides in Colombia, killing at least 140 people and flooding about 3,500 homes in southern Bogota since Sept. 1.
