A delegation of the UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC), currently visiting Egypt, stressed the importance of Al Azhar Observatory's role in combating extremism and terrorism.
The delegation said that Al Azhar observatory is one of the cornerstones of fighting terrorism and extremism in the Middle East region.
The UN delegation pointed out to the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation and exchanging information with the observatory on terror-linked crimes.
The delegation members also stressed the key role of the observatory inside and outside Egypt in fighting the extremist ideology and exposing the misinterpreted and misguided messages promoted by extremists.
They also praised Egypt's central role in enhancing security and stability in the region, especially in light of the growing threat of terrorism.
For his part, General Supervisor of Al Azhar Observatory and Fatwa Center Youssef Amer, during his meeting with the delegation, said the main objective of the observatory is to correct misconceptions and combat extremist ideology at the regional and international levels.
