An old Arab woman, who was run over by a 25-year-old man owing to some personal dispute, has died in Ras Al Khaimah.
RAK police have arrested the Arab driver, who also damaged the 62-year-old victim's car, and fled the scene after committing the crime at Al Mamoura area.
"The suspect deliberately ran over the old Arab woman, following which the victim sustained serious injuries," Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of RAK Police, said.
The victim was rushed to the intensive care unit of Saqr hospital in a critical condition, but she could not make it and died two weeks after the incident, he added.
"The RAK police initiated investigations and identified the driver involved in the accident."
Lt-Col Waleed Kanfash, chief of Mamoura police, said they were alerted about the accident on Thursday (June 8) around 11am. "We were informed that an old woman had been shifted to the hospital after being rammed by an unidentified driver."
Investigations showed that the accused damaged the SUV parked in front of the victim's house owning to a dispute.
The old woman got out of her house and asked him to stop damaging her car. Instead, he went to his house, which is close to the victim's, Lt-Col Kanfash said.
"After that, he got on to his car, rammed into the victim's car, and ran over the old woman who received serious injuries."
The suspect then escaped the scene, but the RAK police special forces tracked him down, identified his hideout, and arrested him, Lt-Col Kanfash said.
"While being arrested by the police, the man attacked the cops with a knife. However, the security men overpowered him."
