Joint efforts and intelligence information have led to foiling a drug smuggling attempt on the Kingdom’s northeastern borders, a joint statement by the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army and the Public Security Department said on Thursday.
Anti-narcotics personnel received a tip about a group of persons who were planning to smuggle large quantities of drugs from a neighboring country, the statement said. A joint taskforce was set up to follow up on the incident and plot, according to the statement, which added that a group of persons were spotted trying to cross the borders.
Rules of engagement were implemented against them, however, some managed to flee the scene and one was arrested carrying a bag with almost 200,000 narcotic pills, the statement said.
