Amman – Osama al Rantissi

Eid Al-Adha Feast is no longer a cheerful occasion for Syrian children in the Zaatari camp, east Jordan, human rights reports have announced. Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation cooperated with humanitarian relief organisations and the Qatari Embassy to launch a carnival celebration in one of the caravans of Zaatari camp on Friday, after the Eid prayer Ayman al-Mufleh, secretary general of the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation, said that presents were given to the children of the camp during the celebration, in an attempt to bring joy to the children Despite the sadness and concerns of the Syrian refugees, they modestly celebrated Eid Al-Adha feast Al-Mutaz Abu Jaber, who is in charge of administration and security at the camp, said efforts are made to bring joy to the Syrian people who are suffering away from their homeland and family. The administration of the camp made arrangements to show the Jordanian comic play “Zaal wa Khdra” to entertain the refugees. Internal kitchens were installed in the camp so that the families can cook or heat their food when needed. Abu Jaber said that there are arrangements with families of the local society to host Syrian children of the camp for one day, so that they can play with other children and enjoy the feast in a different atmosphere. One of the refugees said: “What sort of feast can refugees have? Away from their homeland, living in a refugee camp, facing a very uncertain future after losing family members and friends, after seeing their homes and schools being destroyed.” Many refugees still remain positive and hope to eventually have a better and safer life in Syria. The Jordanian government, the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation and the higher commissioner for refugees are working on reducing the negative impacts of the displacement and the psychological effects on the refugees by providing them with the assistance needed. According to Mohamed Al-Hefnawy, executive manager of the association in Mafraq, the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation cooperated with Al-Kitab wal Sunnah Association and distributed twenty thousand copies of the Koran in Zaatari camp. They also prepared a praying room for the Eid prayer and spread carpets. They distributed 6000 toys, gifts and sweets to the children in the camp. He said the association made available another 150 tents for the refugees to be prepared for the winter clothing project. The number of Syrian refugees in Zaatari camp exceeds 38,000.
