The Ministry of Defence (MoD)is investigating claims that a British soldier kept body parts of dead Taliban fighters in Afghanistan as 'souvenirs', it was reported Monday. UK soldier allegedly collected Taliban fingers The allegations are made against a soldier believed to be from The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, and investigations are said to centre around the regiment's last tour of duty in the country, between September 2010 and April this year. The unnamed soldier was reported to have collected the fingers of members of the Taliban in Afghanistan to keep as 'trophies', according to the Daily Mirror newspaper. 'This is a very serious allegation and it would be wrong for us to comment. An investigation is ongoing,' a spokesman for the MoD was quoted saying. In 2007, two soldiers were jailed after smuggling stolen guns out of Iraq to sell as souvenirs, but latest allegation is believed to be the first regarding body parts.
