Edinbrugh - Arab Today

The 2014 Summer School with a total of 60 female students from the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) is under way at the Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education, Mirza Al-Sayegh, said the summer programme is aimed at empowering Emirati women to serve their society in line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and U.A.E. Minister of Finance.
From nine universities and colleges – Abu Dhabi University; American University in Dubai; American University in Sharjah; British University in Dubai; College of Islamic and Arabic Studies; Higher Colleges of Technology; United Arab Emirates University; University of Sharjah and Zayed University – the students are spending over three weeks in Scotland before heading down south for a further week. Students and staff from Dubai Courts are also part of the group.
Study and debate on multiculturalism and leadership will play a prominent part in the students' time here.
"We are pleased to welcome the group to this year's Summer School," said Dr Hossein Godazgar, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the College.
"Our programme is a challenging one as it strives to give the students an opportunity to learn and understand more about Scotland, its people, its history, culture and traditions in the contemporary world.
"The work of the College is primarily devoted to research and study, so we believe the Summer School gives the visiting students a greater insight into what we are doing here, day to day." This is the 18th such educational programme since the college's first Summer School in 2003 and brings the total number of students visiting Dundee for programmes at the College to just over 750.
Visits to the Scottish Parliament, Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow and Dundee College are included in the party's itinerary.
