A local council representing the youth of the emirate of Abu Dhabi has been set up, it was announced on Wednesday. With this, all seven emirates now have their own youth councils in place.

"The setting up of the Emirates Youth Council and the affiliated local youth councils is in line with the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who stressed the need for listening to the youth and learn about their ideas and proposals in order to serve them and enhance their skills and empower them to play an effective role in achieving development and transform the UAE into one of the best countries in the world by 2021," said Shamma bint Sohail Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Chair of the Emirates Youth Council.

She lauded Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and the Rulers of the Emirates for providing opportunities for the youth so that they can play an effective role in building the future.

Al Mazrouei urged members of the local youth councils to help enhance the capabilities of the country's youth and support plans for their future.

"The setting up of Abu Dhabi Youth Council is an important step towards empowering the Emirati youth and creating a platform to showcase their ideas and fulfil their ambitions for effective participation in the sustainable development and future of the UAE," said Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

The UAE leaders have the strong belief that the youth are the driving force in all sectors where the comprehensive development continues under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, he added.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, takes a keen interest in supporting and motivating the youth to be more innovative, creative and ensure effective participation in making the future, Al Mazrouei said.
