Actress, Angelina Jolie Amman – Osama Al Rantissi, Agencies Angelina Jolie's visit to a Syrian refugee camp in Jordan has caught the attention of Jordanian officials. Jordan’s King Abdullah II received UN High commissioner for refuges, Antonio Guterres, in the presence of the actress. Jolie visited Zaatari camp of Syrian refugees on Tuesday, accompanied with the head of UNHCR, Antonio Guterres, and the Jordanian foreign minister, Naser Gouda. She said: “I thank Jordan and all the countries which have opened their borders to host the Syrian refugees. I call on the international community to gather its efforts to support those refugees in order to enable them to come back home one day.” She added: “There are many needs required to be guaranteed for and money needed to be collected to support the refugees. I praise the Jordanian role towards the Syrians.” Press cameras, however, were banned from accompanying Jolie in her encounters with Syrian refugees. The camp area saw security mobilisation and alertness at the highest degree. Camp gates were shut, no one was allowed to enter the camp. Ambulances also entered the camp shortly before the visit. The acclaimed actress is expected to donate $800,000 in aids to Zaatari camp in Jordan where many Syrian refugees are staying after fleeing conflict. She spoke to many of the Syrian refugees and became tearful listening to their stories. "Little children who were asked what they saw described body parts, burnt people being pulled apart like chickens" Jolie told reporters after her two-day visit to Jordan's Zaatari camp. "It's been a very heavy experience because often at times you come to these camps and rarely do you meet them as they cross the border and get to know people the moment they become a refugee," she said, stopping to compose herself. Jolie is known for her charity work and currently serves as UNHCR good will ambassador for refugee affairs.
