Children’s Day Nouakchott - Mohammad Sharif Abeidy Mauritania is celebrating Universal Children’s Day with a number of events taking place in Nouakchott, under the supervision of Social Affairs Minister, Mulati Bent Al-Mukhtar. As part of the celebrations, the minister has announced plans to form a regional movement to promote children's rights in the Hodh El Gharbi Region (west of Mauritania), building child friendly spaces in of the nation provinces and distributing equipment for the preschool education. Al-Mukhtar has stressed the importance of childhood as a mirror of the future of the country. She has also hailed Mauritania's role in being one of the first nations to sign up to the international convention on the rights of the child. UNICEF's assistant representative in Mauritania, Eeishta Basidi said she was happy to attend a celebration event highlighting the important of childen's rights.
