Leader of the House in Senate, Shibli Faraz has moved an application in the Senate Secretariat to withdraw the ‘Prevention of Electronic Crimes Amendment Bill’.
The draft of the bill was presented by then Federal Minister of Information Technology Anusha Rehman in the federal cabinet.
The aim of the bill was to stop illegal contents, said a press release received here on Friday.
The approval to send the bill to the Parliament was given by the Cabinet of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on May 29, 2018. After approval of the cabinet, the bill was sent to the upper house. The bill was moved in the Senate on 19th September, 2018 and subsequently to the relevant committee.
The leader of the house in his application said that as the bill was approved by the last cabinet therefore now approval of the present cabinet was required.
The Government of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf had nothing to do with the previous bill and therefore the bill was withdrawn and an application was sent to Senate Secretariat to this effect.
