The Arab League (AL) Council on Tuesday strongly condemned atrocities and crimes committed by the Syrian regime against unarmed civilians and the systematic destruction of all necessities of life in populated areas in the country.
A statement by an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League's Council at the level of permanent delegates in Cairo said such acts have nothing to do with all heavenly laws and religious values and violate the international treaties for the protection of civilians, the international humanitarian law and the human rights.
They also unequivocally affirm that the Syrian regime renounces its most basic duties to protect civilians and unarmed citizens, the statement added.
The council reiterated the AL's firm stance that a political solution is the only possible settlement to the Syrian crisis through a political process that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people according to the final communique of the Geneva Conference.
The council expressed its deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Aleppo and other Syrian cities.
It called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to exert all efforts to achieve a ceasefire and deliver urgent humanitarian aid to the people in Syria.
The council also condemned the heinous terrorist crimes committed by the terrorist organizations such as Daesh and al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, along with the Syrian regime in various areas of Syria.
These crimes, committed by the Syrian regime and terrorist organizations, amount to "war crimes" whose perpetrators should be brought to justice, it said.
The council's final communique said the UN Security Council members, especially those involved in the Syrian crisis, bear the full responsibility to stop the human tragedy in the country.
It urged the UN Security Council to take urgent action for the implementation of its resolutions No. 2254 and 2268 of 2015 to consolidate the ceasefire and all hostilities, to activate the delivery of humanitarian aid to trapped civilians and to call on all parties concerned to secure safe corridors and urgently deliver humanitarian aid and apply the medical evacuation under the responsibilities and mechanisms of the humanitarian organizations only and without preconditions.
The Arab League Council also appealed to the donor countries to quickly meet their commitments announced in the humanitarian conferences held in Kuwait City and London to support the humanitarian situation in Syria, the neighboring Arab states, and other Arab countries that host Syrian refugees.
The council reaffirmed a firm Arab stance in preserving Syria's territorial integrity, unity and stability based on the Arab League Charter and its principles.
