Egypt's Mufti condemns Gomaa's assassination attempt

Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam deplored on Friday the heinous assassination attempt that targeted former mufti of Egypt Dr. Ali Gomaa. 

The gangs of extremism and terrorism seek to silence the voices that are fighting their radical beliefs by evidence, Allam said in a statement Friday.

They know no language but that of blood and destruction, he added.

Earlier on Friday, former mufti of Egypt Dr. Ali Gomaa survived an attempt on his life as he was entering a mosque in the 6th of October City to perform Friday prayers. 

His bodyguard was slightly injured, a security source told MENA.

Two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at Gomaa and fled the scene, the source added.
